Luke Walton is no longer the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers and now most fans are worried about who the next in charge will be.

The Los Angeles Lakers finally made a move that many were expecting for a long time now and decided to part ways with head coach, Luke Walton. The two sides agreed to move on from each other after just two seasons with Walton as the head coach.

The team showed improvements in Walton’s first season, however, took a step back this season. His weird rotations and who he would play in crunch time was criticized and the fact that he was the head coach that LeBron was joining should have been a red flag.

Walton did what he could with a dysfunctional Lakers team and he still has plenty of time to prove that he can be a good NBA coach.

For the Lakers, the search for a new head coach is on and there have been several different names that have been connected to the team.

The favorite for a while was Jason Kidd, who has been compared to Lonzo Ball quite frequently. However, Kidd has since seen his name fall out of the running.

The two favorites now are former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Ty Lue and Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Monty Williams.

Lue is obviously familiar with LeBron James and understands what it takes to win with him. Williams has a connection to Anthony Davis as the former head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, which makes him compelling.

But quite frankly, it does not really even matter. Jeannie Buss and Rob Pelinka are going to make sure that the new coach runs the team how they want, which will likely be whatever LeBron James wants.

It does not matter if it is Lue or if it is Williams, it will be LeBron that calls all of the shots behind closed doors. We have seen it play out too many times in James’ career to think otherwise at this point.

As for the Davis connection? That does not even really matter. The New Orleans Pelicans are not going to suddenly be willing to trade Davis to the Lakers just because he knows the new head coach.

If anything, Laker fans should be hopeful that former Cavs’ general manager, and new Pelicans’ general manager, David Griffin will help and old friend in LeBron.

Williams might make it more likely that Davis signs with the Lakers but the team would still have to wait until the summer of 2020. Who knows where LeBron is at during that stage of his career Davis already seemingly has interest in playing in LA, this is not a sudden bargaining chip.

It doesn’t really matter. The Los Angeles Lakers will cater to LeBron James, regardless of who the head coach is.
