Los Angeles Clippers have the foundation to soon win an NBA Title
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Clippers are currently down 2-1 to the Golden State Warriors with a slim chance, if any, of advancing to the second round.
Nobody really expected the Los Angeles Clippers to give up much of a fight against the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. While the Clippers could give them tough games, the team simply could not compete with the star power that the Warriors possess.
And so far through this series, it looks like that is the case and that the Warriors, despite their flaws, are going to advance to the second round, which is the least shocking thing to happen today since the sun rose.
The Clippers haven’t just lost two games, they lost pretty badly, by a combined tally of 44 points, to be exact. The team’s one win took an unprecedented comeback that the Clippers certainly deserve credit for, but cannot duplicate twice in one series against one of the greatest teams of all-time.

The Los Angeles Clippers’ surprising and fun season is going to come to and end soon but it should not be a moment of sadness for Clipper fans. First, because the team went so far, and also because the Clippers have laid the groundwork and have proven that they have the foundation to win a title in the near future.
The biggest storyline surrounding the Clippers this summer is the team’s pursuit of signing two superstars, as they have space for two max guys. The biggest rumor is Kawhi Leonard, who has LA roots and doesn’t appear to be a great fit for the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Clippers can then either sign a second star or use the remaining cap to build more pieces around Kawhi. Either way, the team already has the role players that are typically on a title-winning team.
The Clippers have the best sixth-man in Lou Williams, an extremely promising rookie point guard in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the perfect third guy for a title team in Danilo Gallinari, a ferocious young big man in Montrezl Harrell and two young, promising rotational guards in Jerome Robinson and Landry Shamet.
That is just including the guys that are already locked in for next year. Ivica Zubac is a solid rotational big man to come off the bench and re-signing Patrick Beverley can give the team the ferocious problem-starter that we have seen this playoff series can have an impact on even the game’s best players.
The team also has the Miami Heat unprotected 2021 first-round pick, which is trending to be a really good pick if the Heat make the regressions that everyone is expecting. That puts the Clippers in a situation that the Boston Celtics have been in: the team can either keep that pick to draft a highly touted rookie or flip it in a trade for a big name.
The foundation is there and with just a few additions to the roster, the Los Angeles Clippers could legitimately become one of the best teams to start the 2020 decade.
So while the Clippers are losing to the Warriors now, just remember that the same guy that built this Warriors team is now running the Clippers and is trending in the right direction for the near future.
