Los Angeles Clippers: Don’t be shocked if Danilo Gallinari gets traded
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Clippers’ playoff run is just about over, which will turn the emphasis to the offseason, which could bare some surprising moves.
The Los Angeles Clippers were the most surprising team in the National Basketball Association this year. After losing every member of Lob City, this season was billed as an in-between year for the Clippers with the 2019 summer being the main target.
The Clippers were gearing up for cap space and appeared primed to take a year off this season and then attack the free agent market this summer. This season was just supposed to plant those seeds and boy did they plant them.
The Clippers came out of the gates hot and were in the playoff picture for the entire season, finishing as the eight seed in the Western Conference. However, everyone knew they could not get past the Golden State Warriors, and with a 3-1 deficit in the series, the Clippers’ season appears over.

One time ending will bring on another exciting time for the Clippers, which could lead to two max superstars this offseason. Also, the NBA’s most surprising team could make some surprising moves.
One of those moves could be trading Danilo Gallinari, who was a huge piece to this Clippers team this season.
Gallinari is a great complementary piece to a contending team that proved his worth this season. The veteran forward averaged 19.8 points and 6.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game with the fourth-best real plus/minus among small forwards in the league, according to ESPN.
So why would the Los Angeles Clippers be interested in trading someone who has been so pivotal this season? Easy, it can free up a lot of salary cap space for the team to sign two stars with added pieces.
The fact of the matter is that Gallinari is on an expiring deal and the Clippers would not hesitate to trade one year of his services if it means opening the door for the chance to create something special.
Would the Clippers be better with Gallinari as a supporting player in a title-contending team? Absolutely. This is by no means a petition to get Gallinari traded.
However, the Clippers front office is a team that capitalizes on worth and makes the best move possible, regardless of who it might upset. Heck, just look at the package the team got for Tobias Harris after everyone thought he would be in the picture next year.
If there is an opportunity like that on the table for Gallinari then there is not a doubt in my mind that the Clippers make the surprising trade this summer.
