The Los Angeles Lakers’ focus has been set on the 2019 offseason, where the team should heavily pursue veteran guard J.J. Redick.

The Los Angeles Lakers need to add some more firepower this offseason if the team even wants a chance to contend for the 2020 NBA Title. This version of the Lakers was not good enough to even make the postseason and it is going to take some dynamic additions to be a true contender.

To be fair to the Lakers, they probably should have been a playoff team and would have been a playoff team if they did not have such misfortune. But still, the team was not close to being a title contender.

The biggest focus on the offseason is who the front office is going to bring in as the second superstar to LeBron James. While the young core is certainly going to improve, the Lakers front office still needs to add that second star to truly contend.

Unfortunately for Laker fans, the two names that make the most sense right now are not premiere options and instead are Jimmy Butler and DeMarcus Cousins.

However, to look at the bright side, the Lakers could contend after adding one of those guys as long as they stayed healthy and it did not affect the chemistry, although that might be a lot to ask.

The Los Angeles Lakers need to add more than just star power this offseason though and one of the first role players that the team should target should be none other than veteran shooting guard, J.J. Redick.

Redick is a big name in the NBA but certainly is not a big star. The Lakers should be able to afford Redick on a two-year deal of sorts and can pave a path back to LA for him.

Redick obviously was a member of the Lob City Clippers and has connections to Los Angeles. Heck, he is even part of Bill Simmons’ Ringer Podcast Network with the Ringer offices located in Los Angeles.

It is a rather trivial thing but Redick’s fit on the Los Angeles Lakers expands further than that. First of all, he has the veteran experience that will help the team in the postseason and is still producing statistically as well.

Which leads into the second point: he helps fill out the shooting guard position, which is rather thin heading into the offseason, while also giving the Lakers a notable three-point scorer. Redick averaged 18.1 points on 39.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

The biggest hurdle the Lakers are going to have in signing Redick is the salary cap space. However, if the Lakers offer the veteran more years on the deal then it might convince him to pass up on the bigger immediate payday if he is only receiving one-year offers elsewhere.

The Lakers have drafted great. dark. Next

It certainly is a risk but is a risk worth taking as Redick is showing no signs of slowing down and could finally get that ring with the Los Angeles Lakers after being oh so close a countless number of times.
