All signs are pointing towards Ty Lue becoming the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, which is not sitting well with some members of the fanbase.

Ty Lue was instantly one of the frontrunners for the Los Angeles Lakers head coaching job after the team and Luke Walton decided to part ways. Lue, alongside Monty Williams (who was hired as the head coach of the Phoenix Suns) and Jason Kidd, made up the primary frontrunners for the job.

And now it appears that Lue is, in fact, going to get the job as ESPN reported that the Los Angeles Lakers are proceeding towards an offer for Lue. Not only is Lue back in the head coaching circle but he is going to be back alongside LeBron James, who he won a title with in Cleveland.

It is the LeBron narrative that has spun this signing a negative way for some Laker fans. Fans do not like to see one player being bigger the team and it appears as if LeBron is calling the shots in LA, something he seemingly always does no matter the team he is suiting up for.

LeBron obviously has familiarity with Lue and he is a coach that perhaps will roll over and play the style of basketball that James wants to play — to let James call the shots.

The Lakers are likely going to progress into what most LeBron teams were in the past: a team where LeBron heavily dominated ball possession and was surrounded by shooters that James could create shots for.

This team is obviously going to be a little different with the young core that they have in place but there is going to be a noticeable style change in the way they play basketball.

Which, quite frankly, is probably a good thing. The league is already transitioning to a three-point heavy league and to be successful the Lakers have to keep up. It might not be traditional basketball but it is the basketball that is being played in 2019.

Plus, this year didn’t work in large part due to the fact that the front office brought in virtually no shooters in the offseason. The team has already tried an alternative gameplan and it blew up in their faces.

And I get that it can be frustrating if you are a fan of a team and LeBron shows up and starts making changes, especially for Laker fans who already weren’t too fond of James in the first place.

But even before James came to LA the Los Angeles Lakers were run poorly. At least with the focus on James’ desires, the team has a clear direction. That is more than the team seemingly had the few years prior to James.

My biggest advice for Laker fans after this hiring: let it play out. I understand the frustrations and it definitely is part of being a fan. However, at least give your new head coach a chance before outright hating the move.
