All the fans want is for the Los Angeles Chargers to finally win a Super Bowl. However, before that, the team might put together a dominating regular season.

The Los Angeles Chargers are usually the butt of most jokes related to the NFL. And if you are a Charger fan, you definitely know those jokes.

Typically, they regard around the premise that not only do the Chargers suck at kicking but that the team will never be able to win a big game. The kicking situation has been solved but with only one Super Bowl appearance in franchise history, it is hard to refute the latter.

For lifetime Charger fans this can be painful. My father, for example, has been a Charger fan every single year that he can remember of his life. He witnessed the Chargers make it all the way to Super Bowl XXIX only to get creamed by the San Francisco 49ers.

More from LA Sports Hub

The Chargers have made it to the AFC Championship Game just once since that time. It was in 2007 when LaDainian Tomlinson was practically out of action and Philip Rivers played on a torn ACL.

For the first time in quite some time last season, the Chargers were actually fun to watch again. They were one of the most entertaining teams in the NFL and had the joint-best record in the AFC. Although most of the core is young, this is fitting as this young core is giving Rivers his last chance at a Super Bowl ring.

And while optimism is the worst thing a sports fan can have, the Chargers have every piece capable of making them the best team in the NFL next season, which as history indicates, will lead to good playoff results.

It would not be all that surprising if the Chargers not only have the joint-best record in the AFC next season but have the best record in the league. All the pieces are there to complete that puzzle.

Do the Chargers have a quarterback capable of doing so? Yes. Rivers was a legitimate MVP candidate 15 weeks into the season.

Does Rivers have weapons around him offensively? Yes. Melvin Gordon is a top-five back in the league when healthy and the receiving corps, led by Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, is talented. Let’s not forget Hunter Henry, who is returning after not playing all season.

What about defensively? How does the team fare on defense? Well, the defense had two All-Pros in Derwin James and Desmond King last season and a third that was an All-Pro in special teams in Adrian Phillips.

That secondary is already stacked and is going to get better with the draft addition of Nasir Adderley to play alongside James at safety. The defensive line is one of the best in the league and if Jerry Tillery pans out then the Chargers could have the best all-around defensive line in the entire NFL.

The team was able to bring back key linebacker Denzel Perryman and Philips, which are huge re-signings for the middle of the field. The kicking situation has gotten better, the coaching is better and quite frankly: this roster has very few holes.

The only significant hole is the offensive line, which played awful last season and can only get better. Forrest Lamp getting healthy could be a huge boost and guard Dan Feeney should rebound after a laughable season that was following a solid rookie season.

The Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive line won’t get any worse than it was last season and chances are it is going to get better.

The Chargers have the talent and showed last season that the team can easily win on the road. There is no reason holding the Chargers back from having the best record in the league, as long as the team executes what it needs to execute.

dark. Next. Bold predictions for Chargers rookies

And if history repeats itself, the Los Angeles Chargers should be able to make the Super Bowl with the best record. The last team to make it to the Super Bowl and not be a one or two seed was the Baltimore Ravens six years ago.
