2. New Orleans Pelicans

The only other team that it makes sense to make a deal with for the fourth overall pick is the team that was lucky enough to land the first overall pick, the New Orleans Pelicans.

More from LA Sports Hub

Every basketball fan in New Orleans is stoked right now as right when the team is losing their star in Anthony Davis they are gaining one in Zion Williamson. Zion will not be as good as Davis in his rookie year but definitely has the potential to be as good if not better than Davis is right now.

Heck, there is even the optimism that this sudden change of fortune is going to convince Anthony Davis to stay in the long-term. However, the Pelicans are unable to get a long-term commitment from Davis then the team has to trade him, there is no way around it.

The idea of Davis and Williamson playing together on the same team is extremely exciting and one that every NBA fan wants to see. And while it might be the perfect fantasy pairing, the Pelicans cannot afford to lose out on value on Davis just to see how this plays out for one year.

Swapping one year of Davis for young assets is a much better outlook if Davis is not committed to the long term as it gives the Pelicans some pieces to put alongside Williamson to also boost the culture in New Orleans as well.

With the fourth overall pick now, the Lakers might only have to include two of the three young stars on the team. Perhaps that means trading Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and the fourth overall pick for Davis, who would then sign an extension to play with LeBron James in LA.

The team would have enough salary cap space still to add a good point guard as well as fill out the depth in free agency.

dark. Next. Unfortunately, CP3 makes sense for Clippers

Either way, there is a very real possibility that the New Orleans Pelicans end up with both the first and fourth overall pick in the draft to get the best head start on a rebuild as possible.
