Both the Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks enter the offseason with compelling storylines that could lead to two new super teams in the NBA.

Much like their Los Angeles counterparts last summer, the Los Angeles Clippers enter this offseason with high hopes of signing not just one, but hopefully two superstars to create the NBA’s newest super team.

The Clippers have everything the perfect foundation to bring in two stars and certainly are one of the most intriuging basketball options because of it. They have promising young players, such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the best sixth-man in Lou Williams and a proven head coach that been through the wringer.

Not only that, the team finally has a competent front office staff, which was revigorated with the hire of Jerry West, who helped build the dynasty we have seen up in Golden State for the past half-decade.

With the money to spend, every fan is hoping that this is the offseason that can create a team to not only contend for a title but win the franchise’s first championship ever. It helps that the Los Angeles Clippers are also in this position when the NBA free agency class is arguably deeper than ever before.

That does not guarantee that the Clippers will sign any stars, though. There are other compelling options out there as well, with the team’s biggest competition being the New York Knicks. The Knicks have the space to sign two superstars as well as the third overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The Knicks have been heavily connected to both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, although the team can really bring in any two stars they please. While the Clippers have not had strong connections to Irving, and do not really need the point guard, the narrative of the Clippers being in the running for Durant has picked up serious steam.

It might appear to some that the Knicks have the advantage over the Clippers when it comes to stars. While the Clippers have connections to stars the Knicks don’t, such as Kawhi Leonard, the Knicks benefit from being the biggest franchise in the NBA and one of the biggest in the world.

Meanwhile, the Clippers have never been to the NBA Finals and have constantly been the second team in LA. It sucks, but that is the nature of the beast and how the team has been viewed for most of its existence.

However, the Clippers do have one distinct edge over the Knicks that has nothing to do with basketball and has everything to do with Knicks owner, James Dolan.

There is a reason that the Knicks have not had many stars despite being the biggest team in the league and a large portion of the NBA audience believe it is because of Dolan. Dolan’s practices as an owner are not well received and it has shied many superstars away from the team.

The Clippers certainly are not perfect, as the team straight up leaving Blake Griffin out to dry but sour some feelings, but they are far better than Dolan. Steve Ballmer is an owner that legitimately cares about this team, not saying Dolan doesn’t, and the front office is a smart one that has obviously put the team in this situation.

Heck, the Knicks’ front office has been anything but constant and even drove NBA legend, Phil Jackson, out, although Jackson was not doing the best job.

Next. What if the Clippers get no stars?. dark

That very well could be the difference maker between the Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks and might sway the needle in favor of LA. All we can do until July 1 is wait and see.
