Despite having the best player in baseball, it does not appear as if the Los Angeles Angels have any chance whatsoever at winning the World Series.

They say anything can happen in sports and that is especially true when you have the best player in said sport. That is the case for the Los Angeles Angels and Mike Trout, however, it does not appear that “anything can happen” for the Halos.

The Angels have struggled over the last few years despite having Trout put up record-setting numbers. Questionable decision-making in the front office has kept the Angels out of the postseason for four consecutive seasons as the team has not won a single playoff game since 2009.

However, there always still is hope as Trout is going to do Trout things and all the front office has to do is assemble a decent cast around him to succeed. Apparently, this is harder than it seems, as the Los Angeles Angels literally have a zero percent chance of winning the World Series.

Well, at least according to Baseball-Reference’s Playoff Odds for the 2019 season.

The Angels are given a 0.0 percent chance of winning the World Series this year and just 0.4 percent chance of even making the postseason. Only eight teams in Major League Baseball have lower playoffs odds and of the nine teams with zero chance of winning the World Series, the Angels have the best record.

There are three teams ahead of the Angels in World Series’ odds with as many or fewer wins, so it is not going completely on record.

Either way, according to Baseball-Reference, Angel fans cannot even use the “so you’re telling me there’s a chance?” Jim Carrey meme.

And while Baseball-Reference is not the law of the land, it is pretty indicative of the Angels’ current status considering the teams they are grouped against. The team could break these odds and get hot and go on a run at the right time but the roster simply is not constructed for a deep playoff push.

The offense has been above average but the pitching, particularly in the starting rotation, is abysmal. There is a common trend when it comes to World Series-winning teams and it is that they usually have good starting pitching.

The Angels’ starting rotation is so bad that it has the fourth-worst ERA in baseball and the third-worst fWAR. When coming up against the best teams with the best offenses in the league, the Angels will only get exposed.

So, it looks like Mike Trout is going to have another early offseason and go another year without experiencing at least one playoff win. Well, there’s a 99.6 percent chance that is the case, that is.
