Los Angeles Lakers: Danny Green should be first bench target
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers are the team to watch this summer as they look to build a team that can win the NBA Title next season.
The Los Angeles Lakers already caught the big fish this summer in trading for Anthony Davis and the offseason really has not officially begun. Now, the team is tasked with filling out the rest of the roster alongside Davis, LeBron James and Kyle Kuzma to win the NBA Title in 2020.
It’s not just that those three are the core of the team, they are literally the only pieces that the Lakers have entering this offseason. While the Lakers have enough space now for another max cap space, the team might be more inclined to add depth.
There, of course, are exceptions and it appears as if the team is going to go after Kawhi Leonard and Kyrie Irving and if they don’t land them, then the team will go the depth route. Personally, the depth route seems to be the better route anyway, so perhaps fans should be rooting for that.

Either way, the first depth piece that the Lakers should reach out to for the bench is 2019 NBA Champion, Danny Green.
Green honestly could slide into the starting lineup but either way, Green is the perfect free agent for the Lakers to pursue.
He is the textbook three and D guy that can play off-ball alongside LeBron James and hit open shots when needed. Green has been a headache in the past in not succeeding in this role but this past year he was implemental to a Raptors team that shocked the world.
He has title experience, something that is rare to find in a role player of Green’s caliber. His experience makes him more valuable, but it does not price him out of the Lakers’ budget, as it does with some players.
Green is defensively sound and can be the guy to guard the other team’s best backcourt piece in crunch time. If the Lakers can somehow land Leonard as well, the Lakers would have an elite three-man defensive front of Leonard, Green and Davis.
Heck, he might even be implemental in bringing Kawhi to LA. Green and Leonard have been together since their days in San Antonio and that familiarity could be a bargaining chip that the Los Angeles Clippers or Toronto Raptors wouldn’t have.
While the team could still add depth with guys like J.R. Smith and Carmelo Anthony, and shouldn’t avoid those guys, they would be much better off making Danny Green the main priority.
