Los Angeles Lakers: Three reasons to believe Kawhi Leonard is coming
By Jason Reed
1. Kawhi Leonard has no superstar buddy to team with
One of the biggest storylines heading into the free agency frenzy was that Kawhi Leonard was looking to partner up with another superstar this summer. The Lakers, who have enough cap space for one max guy, were not one of the options under these circumstances.
There were two possible routes that seemed available. First was Leonard teaming with Kevin Durant on either the Los Angeles Clippers or New York Knicks. Durant obviously went to New York’s other team.
The other was partnering with Jimmy Butler, likely on the Los Angeles Clippers, which is now off the table with Butler being traded to the Miami Heat.
Leonard now has no other star to team up with this offseason, which is kind of fitting considering who we are talking about. Leonard has always been someone to do his own thing and make his own decisions and perhaps his decision to come home and play in LA is going to stick, regardless if he can get help or not.
This directly ties into another point we are going to make at the end of this article. It is not just Leonard and his future teammates that have given us a hint.
