Los Angeles Dodgers look to take three of four against Chris Paddack
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers wrap up the four-game series against the San Diego Padres with a Sunday afternoon showdown with Chris Paddack.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have started off their 10-game homestand exactly how they wanted by winning two of the first three against the San Diego Padres. Now, to make sure it is truly a great start to the homestand, the Dodgers must take the series on Sunday afternoon.
The Dodgers will be welcoming the St. Louis Cardinals for a three-game series at Dodger Stadium, so getting the series win against the Padres is imperative to get some momentum against their old playoff foes.
The Cardinals are one of just three teams with a winning record and at least 100 games played against the Dodgers — the other two being the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants — so getting that momentum is huge.

Not only do the Cardinals hold the edge all-time, but St. Louis had already guaranteed that they will win the season series by sweeping the Dodgers in four games in early April.
Regardless, the Dodgers’ focus is currently on getting past the San Diego Padres and scoring some runs off of Chris Paddack, who is one of the best young arms in the game.
The Dodgers have one win and one loss against Paddack with a collective batting average of .217 against the young right-hander. However, the ball is going to be flying a bit further in the afternoon, so the powerful Dodgers could tax Paddack for some runs.
Kenta Maeda has not been the winning pitcher in a Dodger game since May 31, so the Dodger bats are definitely looking to supply some insurance to give Maeda more comfort on the mound.
As part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, here is who we think can help provide that comfort.
Jason’s pick (Current streak: 0): Corey Seagger
There really are not many promising matchup numbers against Chris Paddack to go off of. Part of this is because Paddack is so dang good, with the other part of it being that the Dodgers simply do not have a lot of at-bats against the young right-handed pitcher.
Thus, the logic here is to go with a left-handed batter that has shown some success against Paddack in the short number of at-bats. That points the arrow at Corey Seager, who has hit a double off of Paddack in two at-bats.
Seager also went 0-4 in last night’s game and was 0-3 the following night, which might not seem all that promising but if anything, indicates that he is due for a base hit on Sunday.
Seager is still finding his footing after missing a year and missing more time with a hamstring injury this year. But still, he is a good enough hitter to not go 0-3 or worse in three straight games.
