Los Angeles Rams: Biggest question from first unofficial depth chart
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Rams released their first unofficial depth chart during training camp and left us with one big question.
The Los Angeles Rams have one of the best rosters in the entire National Football League and are looking to make another run at the Super Bowl this year. Despite having so much talent, though, we already kind of know who is going to start where when the 2019 season officially gets under way.
Of course, there is still plenty of time for things to happen and things to change, but if you surveyed 100 Rams fans then most of them probably would have been able to guess at least 80 percent of the starters on the team’s first unofficial depth chart.
The Rams released their first unofficial depth chart on Monday. We got to see how where exactly the new additions would be used and how the team was going to replace the losses from this past offseason. All pretty rudimentary stuff.

There was one big outlier on the offensive side of things that had a lot of people scratching their head. 2019 third-round pick Darrell Henderson was listed as the fifth running back on the depth chart.
While it was strange, Henderson will more than likely still be the back that is responsible for taking some of the workload off of Todd Gurley and bringing a new dynamic to the offense. Why else would the team take him in the third round when there were other needs?
It is pretty obvious that this is only temporary, especially considering that he isn’t just listed as the third or fourth running back, but the fifth running back. There is no way he is the fifth-most talented back on that team.
However, the one question we do have about the first unofficial depth chart is concerned with another rookie. The question being why Taylor Rapp is not the starting strong safety and he is on pace to earn the gig?
To answer our own question, Rapp probably is not listed as the starting strong safety because he is a rookie and he has to really earn it to take the job away from John Johnson, who has been consistent in his role the last two years.
He is not a standout player on the defensive side of things but Johnson certainly does get the job done.
Rapp, on the other hands, has the potential to be pretty special in the league. He has displayed excellent football IQ and a feel for the flow of the game that is going to translate to results in the NFL.
Does he have some work to do? Absolutely. But the playmaking ability that Rapp presents is going to create a truly special dynamic alongside Eric Weddle at the safety position. That is something that all Rams fans can get excited about.
There is a good chance that Rapp surpasses Johnson on the depth chart before the regular season beings. And if he does, our initial question about the first unofficial depth chart will feel justified.
