The Los Angeles Dodgers are hosting the St. Louis Cardinals in a Wednesday afternoon game with the chance to return the favor of a sweep.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be live on YouTube on Wednesday as the team takes on the St. Louis Cardinals in an afternoon getaway game for the Cardinals. Also on the line is a potential sweep, which would return the favor of the Cardinals sweeping the Dodgers earlier in the year.

The two wins were vastly different for the ball club. On Monday, the Dodgers dominated the Cardinals in every facet of the game and walked away with a definitive 8-0 win.

Tuesday night’s win was different as the Dodgers outlasted the Cardinals in a tightly-contested pitcher’s duel with the final margin being 3-1.

There was one common denominator in the two games and that was excellent pitching by the Los Angeles Dodgers. One run across two games is something to be proud of and the Dodger pitching staff is going to look to continue that trend into Wednesday.

Taking the mound for the Dodgers is rookie Dustin May, who impressed Dodger fans with his first career start last Friday. It will be interesting to see how the rookie pitches in an afternoon Dodger game, where the ball flies a bit farther.

Regardless of how May pitches, the Dodger bats are going to look to have a better game than last night. The team did enough in piecing together hits to get the win but are going to want to give May plenty of run support to make the rookie comfortable.

As part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, here is who we think will get at least one base hit and help the team’s efforts.

Jason’s pick (Current streak: 0): Joc Pederson

This series has not been kind to me the last few days after having such a good run for most of the year. After yet another consecutive wrong pick, I am going to the lead-off man in Joc Pederson.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have pretty terrible numbers against Jack Flaherty, which is not promising. The Dodger hitters are hitting .152 against Flaherty. If you take away Alex Verdugo and Enrique Hernandez, who are on the IL, the team is hitting .119.

Of the five combined hits against Flaherty for the non-injured Dodgers, Joc Pederson owns three of them. Pederson is 3-9 against Flaherty in his career with two solo shots.

It has been a while since we have seen a lead-off bomb from Pederson and today might be the day. Good matchup, afternoon heat, I like my chances.
