Los Angeles Lakers don’t really have any weaknesses
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the few legitimate teams in position to win an NBA Title and enter the year with a roster that is without any major faults.
Anyone that reads this that is not a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers is probably going to say that this is massive homer bias considering that we are a Los Angeles-based site. To be completely transparent, I am not even a Lakers fan and just love everything that goes on in the NBA.
So when I tell you how I evaluate this roster, just know that it is coming from an unbiased source. That does not mean that it is the concrete truth or will even be true, but it is not a super-biased opinion.
With that being said, when I look at this Los Angeles Lakers roster, it is hard to find any real weaknesses. Crazy, I know, but the Lakers check every single box possible to contend for an NBA Title.

No team is perfect and there are going to be trials and tribulations along the way, but the Lakers front office really did a great job of adding all the necessary pieces, even if the team did not land Kawhi Leonard.
The baseline for any contending team is at least having two all-stars and the Lakers have the best duo in the entire NBA. LeBron James may no longer be the best player in the league but he is still a top-five regular-season player and Anthony Davis has serious MVP potential.
DeMarcus Cousins could serve as the third superstar as well. A lot of people are ruling Cousins out but he was still impressive in limited time last year and has had more time to rest from injuries.
All of the role players check the boxes. There are guys that are great defensively, guys that can shoot the three-pointer and guys that can provide a spark off the bench. Kyle Kuzma should be the team’s sixth man and would make one of the best sixth men in the league.
Our friends over at Lake Show Life wrote a nice article about the team’s one weakness: an elite defender that can guard the long forwards in the NBA and other playoff team’s best forward.
However, while that has become a popular opinion to have about the team, the Lakers don’t really need that. Anthony Davis will provide that defense when it really matters, which is all that matters. LeBron James is going to be better than he has been with a better team around him and Danny Green is a great defender.
Alex Caruso provides defense and size to use at point guard in certain situations, Avery Bradley can stick with some of the best guards in the league and JaVale McGee is a capable rim protector.
They are not as good defensively as the Los Angeles Clippers, who have a scary elite defense that is going to be a problem for the Lakers and every other team in the league. However, the Lakers certainly are not as incompetent on defense as some seem to think they are.
At the end of the day, the Los Angeles Lakers boast a roster that has a lot of strengths and no real major weakness. Are they weaker in certain areas? Sure. But their “weaknesses” are where other teams will strive to be.
