The point guards

In a former article I wrote breaking down the pros and cons of each Lakers point guard, the feedback from readers was mostly unanimous—start Alex Caruso and keep Rajon Rondo off of the television as much as possible.

However, Frank Vogel is not looking to appease fans. Instead, he will do his best to keep the front office and Jeanie Buss happy, and ultimately, as many wins as possible on the table.

While fans may despise him, Rondo is the safe choice to start at point guard, especially to begin the season.

Rondo is a savvy veteran that has earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to a battle against a young point guard. For a while, it was reported that he would start over Lonzo Ball last season, but now everyone thinks he will automatically play behind Caruso? Not likely.

If the Lakers start to lose games, the pressure will come to make a change, and it will most likely come at the point guard position. I agree that Caruso is the best man for the job, but it may make sense for Vogel to keep this move in his back pocket headed into the season.
