Los Angeles Clippers rumors: There is no point in signing Joe Johnson
By Jason Reed
Former All-NBA star and seven-time all-star, Joe Johnson, has emerged in the latest Los Angeles Clippers rumors as the forward is set to work out for LA.
Joe Johnson is a seven-time all-star, one-time All-NBA member and perhaps most importantly, the Big3 MVP. That is why his inclusion in the latest Los Angeles Clippers rumors has gotten fans excited.
Johnson is set to work out with the Los Angeles Clippers while also working out for the Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans (h/t Bleacher Report).
This comes just days after Johnson won the Big3 MVP award after averaging 21.9 points per game in a game that only goes up to 50 points. While it is not the NBA, he is still playing against former NBA guys, so that is impressive.

However, while it is easy to get excited about the idea of having Iso Joe on the Los Angeles Clippers, it ultimately would make no sense for the team and there is absolutely no point in bringing him in.
First and foremost, the team is already very deep at the forward position, especially in the shooting guard/small forward mold that Johnson is in. Paul George, Lou Williams, Landry Shamet and Jerome Robinson should all be seeing time at the two.
Meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard has small forward locked down with Maurice Harkless being the primary backup. Keep in mind that Leonard will likely be playing the four as well with George also spending time at the three when Williams is on the court.
You could make the case for adding more depth as there is nothing wrong with too much depth but potentially adding Johnson is a bit redundant with the Clippers rumors around Andre Iguodala. Iguodala is not only a better player at this stage of his career, but fits on the Clippers much more.
While Johnson did impress in the Big3, it is important to note that his recent NBA numbers have not been great. In his last NBA season, which was 2017-2018, Johnson averaged just 6.8 points per game on 27.6 percent three-point shooting.
People can cite his overall numbers all they want but those are the most recent numbers against NBA-level competition and ignoring those is a disservice.
So the Clippers would be adding a bench scorer that is not all that efficient at scoring that also does not help the outlook much defensively, which is important as the Clippers will be a defensive-minded team.
There is no point in adding that to the roster. Experience is nice, sure, but the Clippers would be much better off giving those minutes to someone like Jerome Robinson or even adding size to the roster instead of Johnson.
I am sure that Iso Joe is going to find a team to play for in 2019. It just should not be the Los Angeles Clippers.
