The Los Angeles Dodgers are back home in Los Angeles and joining them is a new face in Gavin Lux, who is making his MLB debut as the starting second baseman.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the brink of their seventh consecutive National League West title, which is a testament to the organizational depth that the team has created as every year there are new players that emerge from the farm system to make a difference.

This year, we have already seen several promising young players on the big league club. Will Smith has won over the starting catching duties, Alex Verdugo has thrived by finally getting a near everyday role, Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin have been exciting on the mound and Matt Beaty has been much better than anticipated.

Dodger fans are going to add another name to that list at top prospect Gavin Lux is making his MLB debut and will start at second base on Labor Day. After a poor first year in the minor leagues, Lux has been exceptional in his last two seasons and has been otherworldly since getting promoted to AAA in July.

More from LA Sports Hub

In 49 games with Oklahoma City, Lux is hitting .392 with 13 home runs, 39 RBIs and a 1.197 OPS. He has 26 home runs in 113 games across both AA and AAA this year.

If Lux thrives in the month of September then he absolutely could earn a spot on the postseason roster. And if his numbers in AAA are any indication then we might just have to expect that to be the case.

Aside from Lux, Walker Buehler is getting the start for the Dodgers on Monday as the team looks to build off the win on Sunday in Arizona to turn it around from the 4-6 run in the last 10 that they have endured.

And as part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, here is who we think can get at least one base hit in order to help Buehler’s efforts.

Jason’s pick (Current streak: 1): Gavin Lux

C’mon, is there anyone else that I could pick besides Gavin Lux in his MLB debut? While there obviously is no matchup numbers for Lux, it is impossible to go with somebody else while Lux makes his MLB debut.

I had the honor of getting an extended look at Lux when he played for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 2018 and I knew from that point on that he was special. He has a Corey Seager/Max Muncy mold at the plate, having the gap-to-gap power of Seager while having the plate discipline and control of Muncy.

The power numbers have really ballooned this year and now some might even be comparing him to Cody Bellinger, although he has a long way to go before being that level of a power hitter.

Regardless, Lux has proven that he is one of minor league baseball’s best hitters and is yet another exceptional left-handed bat that the Dodgers can add to the lineup.

It would be awesome to see Lux hit a home run in his MLB debut or even come up big with an RBI hit late in the game. First things first, he needs to get that first hit out of the way.
