Los Angeles Rams week one spread is a guaranteed lock
By Jason Reed
Despite being the best team in the NFC, the Los Angeles Rams were not that great against the betting spread last season but have a softball on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Rams had the joint-best record in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints at 13-3 and defeated the Saints in the NFC Championship Game to earn the honors of the best NFC team last season.
Even though the Rams won 13 games last season they did not win a lot when they came up against the spread. The Rams’ cover record against the spread last season in all of their games was 9-9-1, putting them right at the middle of the pack in terms of teams to bet on.
That is understandable, as the Rams often got some lofty lines because of their high-powered offense. You are bound to not cover when you are a favorite in literally almost game. No team can win every game by more than a touchdown.

Despite their bad track record from last year, the Los Angeles Rams are being tossed a softball spread in Week 1.
Per Vegas Insider, the Los Angeles Rams are only three-point favorites on the road against the Carolina Panthers in most sportsbooks in Las Vegas.
I get it. It is week one, the Rams are on the road and there are questions surrounding Todd Gurley‘s knee health and whether or not the Rams offense will be the same.
You know who else has questions about his health? Cam Newton, who is dealing with shoulder issues, which is the absolute worst thing you can deal with if you are a quarterback. Sure, he is still a threat to run the ball and Christian McCaffery is a beast, but do you really think that the Rams are going to lose this game, or just win by a field goal?
This is a textbook first game of the year where the Rams want to prove that they are the same team from a year ago and beat the brakes off of Carolina. Even if Newton feels great, he is going to have Aaron Donald in his face all-day.
Carolina was below league average in passing yards allowed per game last year (although not terrible). Even if Gurley is called on less frequently, the team still has a ton of weapons in the passing game and rookie running back Darrell Henderson to soften the blow.
Again, it is Week 1 and Vegas does not want to set some absurdly high line, especially due to the fact that the Panthers are home.
But at the same time, the Los Angeles Rams could be six and a half point favorites and I probably would still bet on them in this game.
