The USC Football Trojans may have started the season off 1-0 but things are going to start to unravel for the team in Week 2.

The USC Football Trojans started the 2019 season exactly how every single team in the nation wants to start their season: with a victory. However, the loss was as sour as a loss can be, as starting quarterback JT Daniels tore his ACL and Meniscus.

Taking over the quarterback duties is freshman Kedon Slovis. While on paper this appears to be drastic for USC, Slovis certainly can be successful. In his senior season at Desert Mountain High School, Slovis completed 62 percent of his passes for 2,542 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Not the most impressive numbers for a high schooler but Slovis has the raw talent to at least be decent for the Trojans.

However, it still is a drop-off and leaves the rest of the Trojans season unclear. What is clear, though, is that Week 2 is going to be the start of a drawn-out process in which we see Clay Helton lose his job as head coach.

Some would think that the Daniels injury helps Helton as it gives him a cushion, gives him an excuse as to why the Trojans underperformed. However, if anything, it will just show the glaring misfires he has as coach against quality opposition.

USC is hosting Stanford this week. While we want to be optimistic about the Trojans, it is going to take a lot for them to beat a ranked opponent after losing their quarterback. That is probably a loss.

The Trojans then have a tough stretch of facing BYU on the road, 13th-ranked Utah at home, 14th-ranked Washington on the road and then eighth-ranked Notre Dame on the road.

That is a brutal stretch of games for the USC Trojans. Even BYU, who lost in Week 1 and went down six spots, it still ranked 55th in the nation. While USC is ranked 38th, that is bound to fall with the change of quarterbacks and a loss in Week 2.

If we are being absolutely realistic, chances are that the Trojans only win one of those games. That would give the team a 2-4 start to the season. By then, it might be too late for Helton.

And even if he keeps his job, the rest of the season is not a guarantee, especially if they start this poorly. But even if they beat all of their unranked opposition late in the year, they still have to face Oregon, which is bound to be a loss. The best-case scenario, at least on paper, is a 7-5 record, which is probably a bit too optimistic.

dark. Next. Bright spots of Week 1

It all is going to start in Week 2. Even though he has to deal with the loss of his starting quarterback, I would brace yourself for the USC Football program to be on a head coach search by midseason.
