The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched their seventh consecutive National League (NL) West division title with a win over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.

In first place in the NL West from early April, the Los Angeles Dodgers ran away with the division title just a year after they needed a playoff tie-breaker to clinch the NL West. While the postseason remains with that elusive World Series title up for grabs, the Dodgers should be celebrated for their consistent excellent play in 2019.

Here are some numbers to think about on the Dodgers historic clincher.

Seventh Heaven

More from LA Sports Hub

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ seven consecutive division titles place them third behind the Dynasty 90s Atlanta Braves with 14 and the New York Yankees of the 90s/2000s with nine.

It is a great accomplish especially compared to their own history. This run for the Dodgers was historic after just three seasons as this remains the only time in team history that the Dodgers made the playoffs more than two years in a row.

Also, consider this over their entire history in a seven-year span have the Dodgers made the postseason more than four times. You would have to go back to the Boys of Summer Dodgers in Brooklyn who from 1949 to 1956 won five pennants and one World Series over eight seasons.

Four for Dave

By virtue of winning his fourth consecutive division title, manager Dave Roberts became the first manager in Major League Baseball to pull of this achievement in his first four full seasons of being a manager.

Despite the criticisms of some of his decision making in the past two World Series, no one can deny that what Dave Roberts has done with the Dodgers is a great achievement. Roberts has kept a cohesive clubhouse that is focused on reversing the trends of the last two years.

Then there was three

Three is the exact number of players who were there in the first division title-winning team back in 2013 and who were there for Tuesday’s clincher. Clayton Kershaw, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Kenley Jansen remain the only players who ended the Dodgers’ three-year playoff drought back in 2013.

Their contributions helped kick start the current division-winning streak, now they are veteran leaders on the team hoping for one more chance at getting a World Series ring.

Postseason success does not rest on Kershaw, Ryu and Jansen alone, but if the Dodgers want to be champions at the end of the season, they will have to be contributing like the rest of the team.
