The Los Angeles Chargers are perfect for Jalen Ramsey
By Jason Reed
Star cornerback Jalen Ramsey has requested a trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars and there is a perfect new home with the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Los Angeles Chargers had one of the most dynamic and electric secondaries in the league last season. And while they are still talented, injuries and poor play have led to the secondary being somewhat disappointing in the first two weeks of the season.
But can you blame the Chargers? The best defender on the team, Derwin James, is out with an injury and now his replacement, Adrian Phillips, is out as well. Casey Hayward and Desmond King have been good at corner, but Brandon Facyson has not.
There are a lot of things that the Chargers have to figure out. Melvin Gordon and his contract status, whether it is even worth bringing him back (it is). The countless injuries and how to overcome them. Making sure the team does not fall victim to high expectations.

So adding something to the Chargers’ plate might not seem like the smartest thing. However, when the perfect situation presents itself, it is hard to ignore. That perfect situation is Jalen Ramsey becoming a Charger.
Ramsey had a verbal confrontation with Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone on Sunday against the Houston Texans and it was reported on Monday that Ramsey requested a trade from Jacksonville. This has been a long time coming, as Rasmey has seemingly had a foot out the door over the last year.
Ramsey is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and would fit in seamlessly with the Los Angeles Chargers. Just imagine a secondary consisting of Ramsey, King, Hayward and James, once he becomes healthy.
That is a foursome that would make it very, very difficult to throw against. As we have seen with Facyson in two weeks, sometimes you are only as strong as your weakest link.
It also helps that Ramsey has a connection with the Chargers. He and Derwin James share agents and James even commented lightning bolts on the Bleacher Report’s Instagram post about Ramsey.
Oh, and the two played with each other at Florida State and James refers to Ramsey as his big brother.
The cost should not even be a hang-up for the Chargers. Ideally, you would like to see the Chargers work this out without sending a first-round pick but I would even be OK with that. I would much rather see the team trade a second next year and a third the year following, but if it is just one first then that is fine.
First-round picks are a big deal in the NFL but keep in mind that the Chargers’ window will not last forever and if there is ever any year to trade a first-round pick it is this year.
2019 first-round pick Jerry Tillery has not even been playing much thus far. I think the Los Angeles Chargers would be just fine without a first-round pick while instead having Jalen Ramsey.
