Los Angeles Clippers: Kawhi Leonard doesn’t care if LA boos him
By Jason Reed
Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard has garnered an interesting reaction from Los Angeles fans, which mostly includes booing the two-time champion.
Kawhi Leonard was in attendance for the Los Angeles Rams game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday and was promptly booed when he appeared on the big screen. Why? Because he joined the Los Angeles Clippers.
It is no secret that the Los Angeles Lakers are, by far, the most popular team in Los Angeles. Most Clipper fans would admit to that and those that don’t are pretty much in denial. The Lakers probably have the biggest and most passionate fanbase in all of basketball, so it isn’t a bad thing that the Clippers have fewer fans.
So most of the people at the Rams game were Laker fans, who booed Leonard because he decided to do what he wanted and sign with the Los Angeles Clippers instead of doing what Laker fans wanted and signing with the Lakers instead.

And really ever since the signing the one thing that Laker fans have tried to hang over Leonard’s head is the fact that he will “play on LA’s second team” and that he will never be loved by Los Angeles.
If any Laker fans are reading this then I have a news flash: Kawhi Leonard doesn’t care in the slightest. The only people that care about that narrative are Laker fans. Clipper fans are content with their team and their fanbase, of course, Laker fans are going to boo Leonard! Why would anyone get upset about that?
Some even criticize Leonard for going to the Clippers, stating that he cannot handle the bright lights that the Lakers have to offer. First of all, I am pretty sure that Leonard can handle the bright lights, he is a two-time Finals MVP and carried the entire nation of Canada on his back in these past Finals.
Second of all, the Clippers are going to be right in the mix as well. So even if he does not have the massive Lakers fanbase behind him he is still going to be heavily prominent in the national eye.
The funniest ones are the ones calling him a sellout, that he needed a second star on the Clippers to go there and he cannot win on his own. It is extremely unfair to say every Laker fan is like this, but I have seen that narrative tossed around on Twitter, which makes absolutely no sense.
If he joined the Lakers he would have been joining two established stars. And as for winning on his own: are we just forgetting what happened in the Finals four months ago?
The bottom line is Kawhi Leonard does not care if he is not loved by most of the LA fans, and why should he care? This isn’t about being the most popular, or being the most loved. Heck, most Laker fans hate their own star in LeBron James!
It is funny that this is a narrative to even begin with. It does not matter if LA is a Lakers town. All that matters is winning and the Los Angeles Clippers will do plenty of that.
