Los Angeles Lakers: Why LA’s duo is the best in the league
By Jason Reed
3. LeBron is actually willing to take the back seat
The final counterpoint that someone might have (other than age, which we have seen hasn’t been a factor yet for LeBron) is that LeBron does not play well with other stars. Despite his ability to make those around him better, there has always been a sour feeling for the second star on a LeBron James team.

That is completely fair. Kyrie Irving wanted out of that situation in Cleveland and Kevin Love was always made out to be the scapegoat. LeBron being at the center of attention has had a negative impact.
That will not be the case at all with this Lakers team as LeBron has already made it clear that he will bet he 1A to Anthony Davis. Davis is going to be the team’s primary playmaker, the guy who fills the box score sheets on a nightly basis.
LeBron will still have a massive impact and take over when needed but having that philosophy is extremely important to be successful. Egos can kill a team and as we saw with the Golden State Warriors, both Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry had to put aside their egos to be successful.
Other teams will not have this luxury. The Houston Rockets are the prime example of disfunction waiting to happen and even Kawhi Leonard has never really played with a second star unless you count an aging Tim Duncan.
George couldn’t find success alongside Russell Westbrook and even told reporters after a playoff game loss with the Indiana Pacers that he (not C.J. Miles) should have been the one taking the last shot.
Yeah, we know that, but outing your teammate like that to reporters, after you were getting double-teamed, is not really the sign of being a good teammate — but he has had time to grow.
As long as LeBron keeps this philosophy and does not waver then the Los Angeles Lakers will have a much easier transition than the other new superstar duos.
