A.J. Pollock: D+

A.J. Pollock was the big free-agent signing in the offseason before the 2019 season. He was meant to produce from the right side of the plate and bring a Gold Glove-caliber glove to center field. The rap on Pollock was his inability to stay healthy.

Pollock went 0-3 on the season. His .795 OPS was second-lowest among players with 300 at-bats, he ended up hitting .239 against right-handed pitching, which put him in a platoon situation.

Pollock manned center field to start the season but ended up in left-field replaced by superior fielders. According to Baseball-Reference, among Dodgers outfielders on the season, Pollock was the only one in the negative in defensive runs saved (-10).

Pollock again lost time due to injury this time because of a staph infection from his surgically repaired elbow. Pollock missed two months and the Dodgers looked better with rookie Alex Verdugo in centerfield. Pollock’s year of misery seemingly got worse as he set a new record for strikeouts in an LDS with 11, going hitless in the Dodgers five-game loss.
