Los Angeles Lakers are now the favorites for Andre Iguodala, here’s why

2. The Los Angeles Lakers have been the better defensive team
Heading into the season, the biggest narrative around the Los Angeles Clippers is how good their defense was going to be, making them an extremely tough team to beat. While the defense has been solid thus far, the Clippers have not quite been what the Lakers have been early in the season.

The Lakers rank third in the NBA in points allowed per game, allowing an even 100 points per game this season. The Clippers have allowed, on average, 109.5 points or game, which is 15th in the league.
The Lakers have recorded many more blocks, 7.8 per game opposed to 4.7, and even have the margin in steals with nine steals per game opposed to the Clippers’ 7.6 steals per game this season.
To be fair, the Clippers’ defense is going to get better once the team gets Paul George, who is one of the 10-15-best defensive players in the league, back. George is going to make a massive difference.
It is not about who has the better defense on paper for Iguodala. What the Lakers have proven by having a definitely betters defense is exactly what you would think: that they are good at defense.
There was the promise that the team would be a good defensive team but we really were not going to know until we saw them in action. Through five games the Lakers have done a great job in proving that they are great defensively.
That is a huge thing for Iguodala, who is not going to want to sign with a team where he is responsible for righting the defensive ship.
The Los Angeles Clippers also have a great defense but it was the one thing that was giving the Clippers such a big edge of the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, that edge is not nearly as prominent.
