Los Angeles Dodgers: Potential relief pitcher trade targets
By Jason Reed
2. Justin Wilson
When the Los Angeles Dodgers traded for Scott Alexander two years ago it did come as somewhat of a surprise. Alexander was definitely not a household name at the time and most Dodger fans likely never heard of him because he played in the AL Central.
While that move has not panned out entirely like the Dodgers planned, the idea was that the team needed a left-handed relief pitcher that can induce groundballs. At the time, Alexander was one of the best at inducing groundballs, which made him more than just a left-handed specialist.
Justin Wilson would fall in the same vein. If you do not follow baseball much outside of the Dodgers then there is a chance that you have not heard of him but he has some of the same traits as Alexander: he is left-handed and induces a lot of ground balls.
Wilson ranked 50th in all big-league pitchers last season in groundball percentage and finished the year with a 2.54 ERA in 39 innings pitched.
Wilson has one more season left on his contract at $5 million and the New York Mets would definitely be willing to take offers and the Dodgers, who have no shortage of prospects, could easily afford to send a low-tier, top-30 prospect in exchange for Wilson.
Wilson would be a great left-handed arm to add to a bullpen that desperately needs one and with the new three-batter minimum rule, provides more value than your traditional southpaw reliever.
