Los Angeles Dodgers: A trio of American League East players to target
By Jason Reed
3. Mookie Betts
This is the big one and this is the one as a Dodger fan that I get most excited about. I get the most excited about a Mookie Betts trade over signing Anthony Rendon or Gerrit Cole. Betts is a sensational talent, a former MVP and a realistic trade target for the Los Angeles Dodgers this winter.

Betts has one more year of arbitration before being a free agent, where he will get a massive contract. All the things we have heard so far is that the Boston Red Sox do not want to pay Betts the massive salary that he is going to get, so the team could be inclined to trade him prior to 2020 to get the most out of him.
This is risky for the Dodgers as Betts might want nothing to do with LA in the long-term and may end up signing elsewhere like Manny Machado. However, if the Dodgers have the impression that Betts wants to sign an extension then they should pull the trigger and make the blockbuster trade.
The trade would likely have to be something along the lines of Joc Pederson, Dustin May and Keibert Ruiz for Betts. Yes, May is a promising young pitcher and Ruiz a promising young catcher but the Dodgers have two future aces on the staff in Walker Buehler and Julio Urias and a young stud catcher in Will Smith to make up for it.
Neither of them is going to have the impact that Betts could have as an elite bat and an elite fielder. This would allow Cody Bellinger to move to center and A.J. Pollock to platoon in left field with Alex Verdugo, giving the Dodgers the best outfield in baseball.
Just imagine a lineup of Betts, Max Muncy, Justin Turner, Bellinger, Pollock/Verdugo, Seager, Smith and Lux.
Betts is that power-hitting right-handed bat that could provide the spark that the Dodgers have lacked before in the postseason. The Dodgers ushered in this current era with the blockbuster trade for Adrian Gonzalez and company, let’s keep it going by trading for Mookie Betts.
