3. Blake Treinen

Blake Treinen is the only new face on the Los Angeles Dodgers so far this winter. While the team absolutely could still add more players via trade or free agency, Treinen is the only new face right now that Dodger fans have to look forward to.

Again, like anything the Dodgers do, there has been criticism of this signing. After posting literally historic numbers in 2018, Treinen was not all that great last season and that was the reason that the Dodgers were able to sign him to a one-year deal after the Oakland Athletics non-tendered him.

Treinen posted an ugly 4.91 ERA and Dodger fans know firsthand how quickly an elite reliever can fall off from their prime, evident by Kenley Jansen. However, this is still the guy that had a 0.78 ERA in 80 and one-third innings two years ago.

Treinen has great stuff and if we have seen learned anything about the Dodgers when it comes to relievers it is that the team takes the best things about relievers and focuses on that. So many relievers come to Los Angeles and reinvent their career (like Joe Blanton) and none of them have the stuff that Treinen has.

I am not saying to expect another sub-1.00 ERA out of Treinen, the chances of that happening again are slim. However, I expect Treinen to be a reliable set-up guy for the Dodgers that even might turn into the team’s closer by the end of the season.

dark. Next. Why the starting rotation will be just fine

Treinen will revert back to form and post an ERA under 2.50 in the National League on a team that utilizes pitchers better than most teams.
