3. Philip Rivers

To be completely transparent, I am a huge Philip Rivers fan. Rivers is the only quarterback I have ever known as a Charger fan and moving on from him is certainly going to be hard. However, I definitely am not against moving on from Rivers, as long as the replacement is just.

That is the problem with Tom Brady: the replacement is hard to justify. Is Brady the better quarterback all-time? Absolutely. Will he throw fewer interceptions than Rivers? Probably, but I do not think that he is necessarily a better quarterback right now.

Rivers is familiar with the system and familiar with the guys in the locker room. While he absolutely struggled last season, he had one of his best career-years two seasons ago and if the Chargers could simply bolster the offensive line and give Rivers more time than he is going to be better than he was in 2019.

Because as good as Brady is, you cannot tell me that he will be the same behind this same treacherous offensive line. He will be just as bad, if not worse than Rivers was last season and while he might not throw many picks he will probably set the record for balls thrown away.

The problem with getting Brady is that it would be done from a pure business standpoint, which is not what the fans deserve. The fans have had to sit through three years of watching their team play in a soccer stadium that fills up with opposing fans instead of having a legitimate stadium in San Diego, which is what everyone seemingly wanted.

Signing Tom Brady is a good move to get some headlines and get some casuals to come out and see Brady, I will admit to that. Does it make the Los Angeles Chargers any better than they were with Rivers? No, it doesn’t. I would argue that they would be worse.
