3. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has a no-trade clause

It would make a lot more sense if this article was about Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the reasons why he could be traded at the deadline. While KCP has been better than he was in the beginning of the year, he still is not as good of a player as Danny Green and definitely is the worse of the two three and D players.

More from LA Sports Hub

The problem with KCP is that he has a no-trade clause and would likely reject any trade that the Lakers would make with him. There is no way that KCP would be willing to leave the Lakers, who are going to contend for a title, to play for a non-contender.

KCP is absolutely the better piece to package with Kyle Kuzma just from a talent standpoint, but it simply is not going to happen with his no-trade clause.

That makes Green the only real option other than packaging several other players in one trade, which would not make sense as it would deplete the roster.

Don’t get me wrong — the Los Angeles Lakers likely are not shopping Danny Green actively and should not trade Green just to trade Green. However, because of the reasons outlined, it would not be shocking to see Green wear a different jersey this season.

The price would have to be right and the Lakers would obviously have to be sure that the team would improve with this kind of trade. It is not a trade that is preparing for the future, it is a trade that is maximizing on the present.

The Los Angeles Lakers are great with Danny Green, but they could afford to move on from him. If they could make a considerable move without including him then it will be a great, surprising win for the team.
