Los Angeles Chargers should do anything for Joe Burrow, if possible

The consensus first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft thus far is Joe Burrow but if the Cincinnati Bengals balk, the Los Angeles Chargers should jump on Burrow.

The Los Angeles Chargers are in a fork in the road moment for the franchise as the team is likely going to have a different quarterback in 2020 for the first time since 2005. Philip Rivers’ tenure appears to be over in LA and now the Chargers have to gauge their options.

Luckily for the Chargers, the team has the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft while also having the opportunity to get an established quarterback in what is going to be a quarterback shake-up this offseason.

There are more options this offseason than past offseasons but Charger fans have to hope that the team does not mess it up, which might be a lot to ask for.

One quarterback that appears to be a guaranteed lock for success is LSU quarterback, Joe Burrow. Burrow just completed one of the greatest seasons in college football history en route to him winning the Heisman Trophy and the National Championship.

Burrow is also older than most quarterbacks that enter the league at 23 years old, perhaps indicating that there will not be many learning curves in his first season. Heck, as you have probably already heard by now, Burrow is a month older than 2019 NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson.

Burrow is the consensus first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, so chances are that he starts his career with the Cincinnati Bengals. However, there is speculation that Burrow does not want to be a Bengal, which opens an entirely new door of possibilities.

To be fair, Burrow’s father has come out and said that he is not sure where the narrative of Burrow not wanting to be a Bengal is coming from (h/t Pro Football Talk). However, with the Bengals being the Bengals, I absolutely could see Burrow pulling an Eli Manning and demanding a trade from the team that drafted him.

Or, I could see the Bengals completely ruining a great opportunity and drafting Tua Tagovailoa over Burrow. Both are great quarterbacks, but Burrow is more of a sure thing right now than Tua.

If anything of that nature happens, and I was running the Los Angeles Chargers, I would do whatever it takes to get Burrow. Let’s say Burrow does not want to be a Bengal after being drafted. If I were the Chargers I would trade the sixth overall pick, a future first and whatever else it takes to get Burrow.

I would do the exact same thing if Burrow is not selected first overall. I would have the Detroit Lions on speed dial and offer the sixth overall pick and two future firsts for the second overall pick if that is what it took.

Maybe I am way too high on Burrow and maybe the Chargers would be fine with Tua or Justin Herbert. However, we rarely see such an exceptional season from a college quarterback and anyone who watched a single LSU game this season knows that Burrow has everything it takes to be the real deal.

Next. Experienced QB options better than Tom Brady. dark

The Los Angeles Chargers were involved in a similar quarterback situation when they drafted Eli Manning and traded him for Philip Rivers. Maybe this time they could be the team with the lower pick in the draft. One can hope.
