The Los Angeles Lakers added their first player from the buyout market after the All-Star Break in veteran forward, Markieff Morris.

The Los Angeles Lakers signed power forward Markieff Morris after being bought out by the Detroit Pistons, which resulted in the team releasing DeMarcus Cousins.

Morris is likely sketched to play the backup power forward, sitting the bench behind Anthony Davis. Morris is the perfect fit for this team and could be the first of a string of late-season moves that the Lakers make in preparation for what they hope to be a long and successful run at the playoffs this year.

I will analyze the role I believe Morris will be filling, how he will mesh with the team, and how this adds yet another layer to the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers rivalry.

More from LA Sports Hub

First, Morris is the perfect fit for this Lakers roster. He brings length, which is a common theme on the roster. This makes it harder for opposing teams to have passing lanes or get off shots. Morris is also a solid and versatile defender.

He can guard any place but specializes on the wing, which is what the Lakers will need come playoff time against teams like the Clippers, Rockets, or likely whoever comes out of the Eastern Conference.

Morris can also spread the floor with his efficient three-point shooting. He currently shoots threes at almost forty percent, which is spectacular for someone at his position. On top of this, he brings veteran experience that is much-needed on this team.

He has spent plenty of time on young developing rosters so he also knows how to lead and mentor younger players. This could greatly benefit Kyle Kuzma, who has the potential to model his game to be similar to the game of Morris.

This signing spices up the rivalry that has brewed between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers; as covered, the Clippers recently traded for Markieff Morris’s twin, Marcus Morris.

The twins played together for multiple years before going their separate ways, and now both being on the two most talented rosters in the league. Both brothers play with a passion that is necessary on a championship roster, and that passion along with the intensity of the Clippers-Lakers games of the past will combine to make the games between the two absolutely electric.

Next. Making the case for Tristan Thompson, if bought out. dark

This signing brings the Lakers one step closer to being championship favorites and could be the first of many moves to come.
