Los Angeles Dodgers: Fringe players to keep an eye on during Spring Training
By Jason Reed
3. Gavin Lux
Gavin Lux had the best 2019 that he could have asked for entering the year. After being a non-roster invitee in Spring Training, Lux put together a fantastic year split between AA and AAA that earned him the honors of being named the Minor League Player of the Year.

Lux now enters 2020 as the second-highest ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline and an essential lock for the big-league club. Heck, Lux changed his number from 48 to number 9, they just don’t give out one-digit numbers to someone that is not going to make the big-league club.
It is Lux’s role with the Dodgers that is still up in the air. He made the postseason roster, rather surprisingly, last season but has still not completely won the second base job. In fact, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com even reported that Lux is not a lock for the starting second base job.
A strong spring will certainly win Lux the job as the Dodgers would be the best version of themselves with a thriving Lux starting at second base on Opening Day, but the team has several options.
Max Muncy could play second base and if someone such as Rios or Beaty has a stellar Spring Training it would not be all that shocking to see them starting at first base.
More likely is the possibility of Enrique Hernandez or Chris Taylor playing second. Both players are at their best as utility pieces but both can definitely hold their own at second and have the veteran advantage.
There is even a middle-ground where Lux is part of a platoon at second base with Hernandez if he has a good enough spring to win the job, but not a breathtaking spring to win the everyday job.
Out of any player that essentially has a guaranteed roster spot Gavin Lux has the most to prove this spring, which should lead to some fireworks off his bat.
