1. Rodger Saffold, 2010

The oldest player on this list and the one that was selected in the first year of our timeframe is the Los Angeles Rams’ best second-round pick of the decade. And like three of the other four players on this list, Saffold is no longer in Los Angeles as he is a member of the Tennessee Titans.

More from LA Sports Hub

Saffold has only been away from LA for one season though and the best years of his career have still come with the Rams. While he definitely was an asset for the Titans in 2019, Saffold’s last two seasons with the Rams were extremely impressive and netted him four-year, $44 million contract from the team.

Saffold started his career as a tackle with the Rams and there were some ups and some downs. He had a very impressive rookie season at left tackle but could not put together a full season’s worth of work the next three seasons. The most games he played was 12.

He had another full season in 2014, returned to his rookie year production, and then only played five games in 2015. He played 15 games in the team’s first season in LA, which was his first full season at guard, and was probably the worst year of his career.

However, Sean McVay then became the head coach and Saffold’s production soared. McVay’s blocking schemes, mixed with some additions to the offensive line, led to two Pro Bowl-caliber seasons from Saffold that were easily the two most impressive seasons by any player on this list.

While he battled injuries in a lot of his seasons with the Rams he still played nearly an entire decade with the team and when he was on the field he was always an above-average lineman for the team.

Those last two seasons, in which he was well above-average easily make him the team’s best second-round pick of the 2010s.
