3. Leonard Floyd: B+

Again, considering what the Los Angeles Rams are dealing with and the holes that the team has to fill on the roster with the available resources, it is hard to not like this pickup by the team.

You could make the case that the Rams’ aggressiveness in the past has led to a situation in which the team gets no long-term answers, which is true, that is why Floyd is a B+ grade as he is only a one-year signing.

It was not smart for the Rams to put themselves in this position but now that they are here, they are doing the right thing in adding players to one-year contracts that have massively high ceilings. Floyd is the perfect example of that and that is why the Rams gave him a one-year, $10 million contract.

Floyd is coming in to replace Dante Fowler Jr. as the team’s edge pass-rusher and we have reason to believe that he can be even better than Fowler was with the Rams. Floyd is coming off the worst year of his career sacks-wise, as he only recorded three sacks and three tackles for loss, but we have already seen what he can do as an outside linebacker.

The Rams’ defense should complement Floyd much more than the Bears’ defense did as well. While Chicago also runs a 3-4 front, Floyd was not the primary edge rusher as that belonged to Khalil Mack.

While Mack certainly helps open things up for the rest of the pash-rushing unit like Donald, Mack was not directly benefiting Floyd on the opposite side of the line. However, lining up next to Aaron Donald with Robinson on the right on Donald absolutely will open things up for Floyd.

There is a chance that Floyd does not reach that ceiling and that is okay, there is no long-term risk. However, there is also a chance that he plays at a Pro Bowl level, making the gamble worth it for the Los Angeles Rams.
