– Hungry to prove something

Since winning the MVP and reaching the Super Bowl in 2015, it has not been an easy road for Newton. The Panthers have only reached the playoffs once since then, and that was the only other year that they had a winning record.

As we have seen in recent years, losing the Super Bowl does not translate well into the next season, as something about getting so close to winning a ring and losing seems to hurt a team.

For Newton, he has seen his play drop since that season. In 2015, Newton totaled nearly 4,000 passing yards, 35 passing touchdowns, 10 rushing touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Since then, his stats have been pretty pedestrian.

While Newton has dealt with injuries over the past few years, especially last season, he seems hungry to prove that he is still capable of being a great quarterback. Sometimes, a little extra motivation is all it takes to regain greatness.

For Newton, being cut by the Panthers was certainly a wake up call and a blow to the ego. Wherever he ends up next, Newton should be highly motivated to prove his former team and the doubters wrong.
