Chargers Get Bad Injury News on WR Right After Clinching Playoff Berth
The Los Angeles Chargers are riding high after blowing out the New England Patriots on Saturday to punch their ticket to the postseason. Los Angeles had little troubles in Week 17, dominating New England 40-7 as Justin Herbert and the passing game led the way.
However, L.A.'s air attack experienced one bump on Saturday, as wide receiver Joshua Palmer was forced to leave the game late in the third quarter with a heel injury. While head coach Jim Harbaugh didn't address the wideout's status after the win, the first postgame update on Palmer was far from ideal.
The Athletic's Daniel Popper reported Saturday evening that Palmer was spotted wearing a walking boot in the locker room after defeating the Patriots. This shows at least some level of concern in regards the receiver's health, though it could be the team taking the utmost precaution as well.
Palmer's continued to provide a nice supporting option to Herbert this season after the quarterback lost his two top options, recording 39 receptions, 584 yards and a touchdown through 17 weeks. The fourth-year pro's marks in both catches and yards only trail his 2021 campaign (72/769) for his career highs in those categories.
It remains to be seen if Palmer will be able to add to this campaign, however, after Saturday's injury. L.A. would surely love to have the wideout available as it looks to secure its seed in Week 18, but the team is likely better off resting him if he's not fully recovered.
The fact the Chargers take on the lowly Las Vegas Raiders also adds to the equation. Harbaugh's squad won 22-10 in the season opener against them, and Las Vegas has only gotten worse since, making this a contest Los Angeles should be able to secure without Palmer's help.
