The Los Angeles Chargers have been busy so far after one week of NFL free agency, adding some interesting pieces while trying to build on head coach Jim Harbaugh's successful first campaign that resulted in a surprise playoff appearance.

That said, roster turnover is natural and no team is the same year over year. Los Angeles' defense stumbled down the stretch in 2024 and there are obvious holes that need to be addressed for a group that ranked 26th in opponent yards per rush (4.7).

Strong linebacker play helps run defenses, and one recent bust of a linebacker is already trying to cozy up to his new team after being traded.

Former Chargers LB Kenneth Murray Jr. Butters Up New Team Following Trade

Speaking to the media after being traded from the Tennessee Titans to the Dallas Cowboys, former Chargers first-round pick Kenneth Murray Jr. declared his love for his new organization, expressing his excitement to be on the team he grew up rooting for.

"I've always loved the Cowboys. I grew up a Cowboys fan," Murray said. "My whole family are Cowboys fans. So this is definitely a dream for me playing here."

While it's endearing to see someone achieve a childhood dream, Murray hasn't exactly been productive. Despite his high draft pedigree, Murray is frequently hunted on passing plays, giving up a passer rating of over 100 in four of his five seasons.

His effectiveness as a run-stopper hasn't translated to the professional level either, as he ranked a paltry 169th out of 189 qualified linebackers at Pro Football Focus.

Perhaps this change of scenery will do him some good, especially on a top-heavy defense that needs solid contributors across the board. Either way, Murray should quickly become beloved by fans because of his passion for the city.

"Obviously playing for the Dallas Cowboys is a big deal," he continued. "I'm excited to be able to come here, bring my brand of football and just fly around and make plays."

The Chargers have clearly moved on, but here's hoping that Murray is able to deliver on his promise and give the team he cheers for a good reason to root for him as well.
