Chargers Get Massive Justin Herbert Injury Update Ahead of AFC West Showdown
By Cem Yolbulan
After starting the season 2-0, the Los Angeles Chargers dropped two in a row to find themselves at 2-2 entering their bye week. More important than the back-to-back losses, however, was losing Justin Herbert to injury. The star quarterback didn't miss any games after suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 2 but he has been hobbled ever since and limited in practice.
For the first time since Week 2, Herbert is off the injury report, per NFL insider Tom Pelissero. The 26-year-old quarterback will reportedly start against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
NFL News: Justin Herbert Off the Chargers Injury Report
This is excellent news for the Bolts. Sometimes having the bye week so early in the season can be disadvantageous but it worked out well for the Chargers this time around as it gave Herbert enough time to recover.
Sunday's clash against the Denver Broncos is a huge one for the division rivals. Denver has won three straight and their defense has looked elite, ranking in the top three in terms of both yards and points allowed.
The Chargers need Herbert to be his usual self to have a chance against the stifling Broncos' defense. However, they will still be missing a few key pieces, most notably RB Gus Edwards, who is out with an ankle injury. Cornerbacks Asante Samuel Jr. and Ja'Sir Taylor have also been ruled out while star pass rusher Joey Bosa and starting left tackle Rashawn Slater are questionable.
