Chargers Have Great Chance to Reunite With Former Playmaker in 2025 Offseason
The Los Angeles Chargers have been one of the most underrated teams in the league this season. After changing leadership this offseason, they gave the keys to Jim Harbaugh.
The Chargers are 8-5 as we roll into Week 15 and are in a great position to make the playoffs. That is a great accomplishment of how the expectations were going into the season.
Los Angeles is looking to make some noise in the playoffs but the outlook on the 2025 offseason has already begun. Lead NFL Draft analyst Jacob Infante of WCGridiron released an article talking about a mock offseason and discussed potential moves the Chicago Bears will make.
In his scenario, the Chargers could have a chance to reunite with a former player.
In that article, he writes that the Bears may release tight end Gerald Everett.
Infante wrote, "Everett’s snap count has gone down significantly since the start of the year. He played 34 offensive snaps in Week 1 and has been on the field for just 13 snaps in the last three games combined. I don’t doubt that he can still be an effective TE2 in the NFL, but the Bears can find similar production for that niche role for much cheaper."
This past offseason, Everett signed a two-year, $12 million deal to join Chicago but has been ineffective in the Windy City. He's played in 220 total snaps this season, logging seven catches for 30 yards.
Things just haven't worked out and a reunion with the Chargers could make sense for both sides. Tight end Hayden Hurst will be a free agent this season so Los Angeles could swap in Everett.
From 2022 to 2023 with the Chargers, Everett had 109 catches for 966 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He built a solid connection with quarterback Justin Herbert during his time there so if the Bears part ways with him this offseason, the Chargers could be a landing spot.
