Chargers Projected as Offseason Suitor for WR Who Was Traded at Deadline
By Cem Yolbulan
The Los Angeles Chargers decided not to make any moves at the November 5 trade deadline. Considering the momentum the team had heading into the second half of the season, that is understandable. The Bolts are 5-3 and have a solid chance to make the postseason in Jim Harbaugh's first year as a head coach.
However, it's clear that the Bolts are far from a Super Bowl contender. When Harbaugh was hired, the expectation was to rebuild the roster to be a serious threat in a few years. So, upgrades to the roster are needed in the offseason.
The best place to do so is through the free agent market. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report looked at the 2025 free agent class to see who the Chargers may want to acquire. He identified wide receiver Diontae Johnson as a potential target for Los Angeles.
"While Johnson isn't a true No. 1 receiver, he has a strong combination of route-running, breakaway ability and reliable hands."
- Kristopher Knox, Bleacher Report
This makes sense for the Chargers who have one of the most questionable WR depths in the entire league. Rookie Ladd McConkey is off to a promising start and Quentin Johnston is playing above expectations. Joshua Palmer is a free agent at the end of this season. If the Chargers want to become a surefire Super Bowl contender, the McConkey-Palmer-Johnston trio is simply not good enough.
Diontae Johnson was just traded from the Panthers to the Ravens before the deadline. The 28-year-old was in the midst of having a solid season despite Carolina's dysfunctional offense. He is still young enough to fit the Chargers' timeline, making him a worthy candidate for a multi-year deal in the offseason.
