Chargers Rookie Should Be Phased Out of Defense After Newest Injury
The Los Angeles Chargers have been a surprising team in 2024, logging a 5-3 record after eight games. They were one of the teams that underwent a massive overhaul this offseason but have been producing on Sundays.
The Chargers have done a solid job blending veterans and young guys into this roster. In Week 9, Los Angeles went on the road and topped the Cleveland Browns 27-10. While they came out victorious, the Chargers had Khalil Mack and Junior Colson leave with injuries.
Mack will be fine for Week 10 but the Chargers should put Colson on the bench after he suffered an injury on Sunday.
Chargers News: Junior Colson Hurt His Ankle in Week 9
Daniel Popper of The Athletic, Colson exited the locker room in a boot after he was ruled out with an ankle injury.
While the severity of the injury has yet to be revealed, the Chargers should use this time to take Colson out of the LB rotation.
The Michigan product was selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft but has struggled immensely in 2024. According to PFF, he has a 39.2 overall grade, which is 146th out of 156th eligible linebackers.
The 21-year-old has logged 14 total tackles in 2024. His snaps have decreased, going from 32 to 10 in a matter of three weeks (Weeks 6-8). Now that he's hurt, this is an ideal time to phase him out of the rotation. The time on the sideline could help him learn the game as a spectator before thrusting him back into action.
He was brought in as the Chargers like his potential but he's one of the worst players at the position. This is the time to put him on the bench and Los Angeles has the perfect chance to do so.
