The next few weeks will be busy for the Los Angeles Chargers, who will see 28 members of last year's roster hit the open market on March 12. The tight end room is one area Chargers fans will be paying close attention to in the coming days, as TEs Hayden Hurst and Stone Smartt have yet to receive new contracts.
With Will Dissly and McCallan Castles being the only players at the position under contract in 2025, the Chargers can't afford to ignore their pressing TE needs this offseason. Quarterback Justin Herbert desperately needs another reliable tight end at his disposal, whether Los Angeles has to find one in the draft or via free agency.
As the threat of Hurst and Smartt potentially leaving L.A. looms, the Chargers secured some TE depth with a move on Wednesday.
Chargers Tender ERFA TE Tucker Fisk Before Free Agency
OverTheCap founder and NFL salary cap expert Jason Fitzgerald reported on Wednesday that the Chargers have tendered exclusive rights free agent TE Tucker Fisk's qualifying offer. The decision means Fisk can only negotiate a new contract with Los Angeles this offseason.

Fisk, 26, will be entering his third NFL season this fall. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound pass-catcher began his professional career as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons after spending four years with the Stanford Cardinal as a tight end and defensive end.
Following an uneventful rookie campaign with the Falcons, Fisk joined the Chargers on a one-year contract last August. Although he began the 2024 campaign on the practice squad, the Edina, MN native was eventually promoted to the active roster before finishing the year with 39 receiving yards and a first down on seven catches in nine games.
Fisk's reliable blocking helped Chargers fans forget about his uninspiring offensive numbers. His 76.3 pass protection grade was among the best in L.A., according to Pro Football Focus, while his 63.6 run blocking mark was the 16th-best effort out of 73 eligible TEs last season.
It'll be interesting to see how Fisk fits into the Chargers' plans next season. He's developing into a solid block-first TE, meaning he could still have a notable role in the offense even if the team signs a free-agent tight end or drafts a prospect like Michigan's Colston Loveland, who previously played under Los Angeles head coach Jim Harbaugh.
The Chargers must build a stronger TE room if they want to challenge for the Lombardi Trophy next season and beyond. For now, they will approach free agency 2025 with the 10th-best Super Bowl 60 odds (+2700) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
