Failed Chargers Draft Pick Joining Yet Another Team to Begin 2025 Offseason
With the majority of playoff teams eliminated at this point in the postseason, including the Los Angeles Chargers, that means the NFL offseason is quickly ramping up. Coaching hires are taking place, and some squads are already tinkering with their rosters to begin 2025 preparations.
That includes Los Angeles, which said goodbye to a number of practice squad players this past week. However, they won't be the only ones with past ties to the Chargers who'll be on the move this offseason. In fact, one such player has already found a new home.
Over the weekend it was revealed the Seattle Seahawks had signed defender J.T. Woods to a reserve/futures deal. His name should absolutely ring a bell to those who follow Los Angeles, as the Baylor product was a third-round selection by the team in 2022.
Unfortunately, Woods turned out to be one of the previous regime's biggest draft busts. He struggled with availability over two seasons with the team, suiting up in only 13 combined games while making almost zero impact on the field with only 10 total tackles when he was healthy.
Jim Harbaugh and company gave Woods one last chance this preseason, with the young defender even moving over to cornerback in hopes of sticking around. Yet, the Chargers decided to part ways for good prior to Week 1.
Woods then landed with the Philadelphia Eagles, who released him in October, and then latched on as a member of the Chicago Bears' practice squad in November. Chicago opted not to bring him back, clearing the way for him to join his fourth team in just the past year with Seattle.
Possessing great size at 6-foot-2 and once-great speed that made him a promising prospect, Woods has the tools at his disposal to keep his NFL career going. But if this stint with the Seahawks doesn't go to plan, Woods may be looking at the end of his run in the pros.
