With the Los Angeles Rams’ 2024 season wrapping up a few weeks ago in the divisional round, it's a good time to look at how a couple of former players performed with their new teams.
Before the regular season began, we saw former Los Angeles linebacker Ernest Jones get traded to the Tennessee Titans, but he didn’t stick there for the entire 2024 campaign. Jones played six games with the Titans and was traded again to the Seattle Seahawks in late October.
Despite being traded twice, the veteran linebacker still played at a high level and found success with his new team. The same cannot be said for veteran cornerback Tre’Davious White. Los Angeles took a flier on the veteran this past offseason.
The Rams signed White to a one-year, $8.5 million contract with a max value of up to $10 million after the Buffalo Bills cut him in March.
Los Angeles thought they found a starting-caliber corner, who is a Pro Bowl player when healthy.
However, things did not go well for White, who started in the first four games of the season, but was made inactive for Los Angeles’ next four games. Ahead of the trade deadline, Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters that the team allowed White and his agent to explore a trade.
Before their Week 10 game against the Miami Dolphins, the Rams traded White and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens for a 2026 seventh-round pick.
The former Rams cornerback was inactive for the Ravens’ Week 10 game vs. Cincinnati but played in their last seven regular-season games as a depth player. White also appeared in the Ravens’ two playoff games.
That said, there’s a stark difference between being a starter on one team and a depth piece in the secondary on another squad. In his seven games with the Ravens, White had 10 combined tackles and three pass deflections, which is almost similar to what he did in LA (12 combined tackles and two pass deflections).
The former Pro Bowl defender had a 50.0 completion percentage allowed on targets and a 56.2 pass rating allowed when targeted – a notable difference from earlier this season with the Rams.
But again, White wasn’t a starter in Baltimore. The veteran defender’s PFF grades were horrible. He had a 52.9 overall grade and a 54.4 coverage grade, which won’t cut it.
Therefore, after a rather disappointing 2024 season, the former Rams defensive back will likely hit the open market in March and try to find another starting opportunity in 2025.
