Former Los Angeles Rams long snapper Jake McQuaide has landed a new opportunity with only a few weeks left in the 2024 season. The Miami Dolphins announced on Monday that they signed McQuaide to the practice squad and cut long snapper Zach Triner.

Before signing with the Dolphins, the 37-year-old McQuaide spent time with the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. McQuaide appeared in four games for the Vikings this season after he was released from the Bears’ practice squad in late October.
The veteran specialist spent most of his career with the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams (10 years). McQuaide made two Pro Bowls with the Rams in 2016 and 2017 as he joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2011.
After playing 10 years with the Rams, McQuaide signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021. He appeared in 21 games across two seasons. The Cowboys waived the veteran specialist in September 2022 but then placed him on injured reserve the next month.
The former Ohio State long snapper didn’t receive any more opportunities in 2022 but latched on with the Detroit Lions in 2023, playing in four games.
McQuaide has a chance to play in the Dolphins’ last few games of the season as starter Blake Ferguson was activated from the non-football illness list earlier this month but hasn’t played. He was initially placed on the NFI list on Oct. 19.
The Dolphins have been shuffling out various long snappers over the last few weeks, signing Tucker Addington and Zach Triner. Addington and Triner were elevated from the practice squad to the active roster three times – the maximum amount.
That said, the former Rams long snapper will likely make his Dolphins’ debut in Week 16 against the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams hope McQuaide's new team can take down the 49ers on Sunday.
