Jim Harbaugh Hints Chargers Coach is a Goner After This Season
The Los Angeles Chargers are 6-3 on the year, always surpassing their win total from last season. Head coach Jim Harbaugh came over this offseason and completely changed the identity of the team.
They are more physically and technically sound this season and it shows on game day. Many people didn't expect the Chargers to be good in 2024 but they have one of the best coaching staffs in the league.
Harbaugh was raving about defensive coordinator Jesse Minter on the "Pat McAfee Show" and believes he won't be in Los Angeles for the long haul.
Chargers News: Jim Harbaugh Praises Jesse Minter
Harbaugh believes that Minter will be a head coach in the NFL sooner rather than later.
"We’re probably gonna have to just enjoy Jesse Minter while we have him because I have a feeling he’s gonna be a head coach next year. We’re gonna be competing against him. He’s just intuitive. He knows offensive football almost as well as defensive football. He knows how an offense is going to try to attack. There’s some playcallers that just have ‘it’ too, he has it."
- Jim Harbaugh
This is a double-edged sword for the Chargers. They now have a great coaching staff and that means other teams looking for head coaches could look at their coordinators to poach.
Minter was with Harbaugh at the University of Michigan before becoming the defensive coordinator this season in LA. He's been a focal point of this turnaround defensively.
Los Angeles is ranked sixth in the NFL in total defense (302.1) but ninth in pass defense (191.6), and run defense (110.6). They are also first in the league in scoring defense (13.1).
These stats are stellar and will certainly catch the attention of fellow teams around the league. For the Chargers' sake, they hope no one snags Minter, but Harbaugh doesn't have much faith in that.
