JJ Redick Throws Blame on Lakers Players for Embarrassing Loss to Nuggets
The Los Angeles Lakers are 10-6 on the season but have dropped two games in a row. On Saturday night, they were dominated by the Denver Nuggets, falling 127-102.
Their performance in the second half was extremely underwhelming and played a big role in the loss. Head coach JJ Redick spoke about his team's performance and made sure to acknowledge it wasn't good enough.
Lakers News: JJ Redick Calls Out Lakers Lackluster Second Half Performance
Redick was asked about the Lakers' second-half outing and knew it wasn't going to cut it.
"Clearly the spirit to compete wasn’t there … Whatever it was, we were not haunted by ghosts of the past. Just not the right spirit."
- JJ Redick
The Lakers went into the break up 63-57 but came out flat in the second half, getting outscored 70-39. Redick saying his team wasn't in "the right spirit" is the correct call-out.
The Nuggets have had the Lakers number in recent memory, winning five straight regular season games over Los Angeles. We can't forget about Denver sending the Lakers home in the past two postseasons.
This is why Redick brought up "ghosts of the past". Although they don't believe this is a mental thing, the Lakers need to find a way to play four quarters of great basketball against the Nuggets and every other team in the league. Coming out flat in the second half is something that needs to be fixed going forward. That isn't the habit of winning team.
If the Lakers want to be a serious squad this season, this can't be a recurring theme for this team.
