Standout Chargers RB J.K. Dobbins, who is enjoying a resurgent season in his first year with Los Angeles, reportedly suffered a knee sprain on Monday Night Football and is expected to miss some time.

He's already ruled out against the Falcons in Week 13, then the team will evaluate his progress after that.

Fans already feared that Dobbins, who has a history of knee injuries, would be out for a while. This isn't not stunning news but it's disappointing nonetheless considering how great Dobbins has been this season.

Chargers RB J.K. Dobbins to Miss Time With Knee Injury

Gus Edwards will handle the bulk of the carries on Sunday against Atlanta. He carried the ball nine times for 11 yards and a TD against the Ravens, a significantly worse performance than Dobbins' 40 yards on six carries prior to getting hurt.

On the season, Dobbins has 158 carries for 766 yards and eight TDs. The Chargers have to travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in Week 14 in a massive game, so the team desperately hopes he'll be healthy enough to suit up for that contest.

His long-term health is more important though. Jim Harbaugh has transformed Los Angeles' culture in his first year running the show, building a stout, ball-control style offense and smothering defense. Dobbins has played a major role in the turnaround, making it hard to imagine a deep playoff run if he remains injured.

There's plenty of time for Dobbins to get healthy and the Chargers would be wise to give him the rest he needs. Based on his injury of knee issues though, the possibility of reinjury will remain a concern.

As it stands, Los Angeles is a 1.5-point road favorite over Atlanta with overwhelming -850 odds to make the playoffs at FanDuel Sportsbook. Despite Dobbins' ailment, everything the Chargers want is still right in front of them.
